Description:
Saint Francis of Assisi is represented in the uniform of the Franciscan friars with different animals around him including two birds, a wolf and a sheep.
Saint Francis’ devotion to God was expressed through his compassion for all of God’s creation, especially the vulnerable. He cared for all the sick and the poor, and extended his love to animals who he regarded as his brothers and sisters.
St. Francis performed miracles on animals, preached to birds, and once tamed a ferocious wolf. Therefore, he’s called the patron saint of animals which is what’s marvelously portrayed here in this hand carved olive wood statue.
